BRUCE WILLIS and 'The Kid'

In "Disney's The Kid" -- the apostophe-s was added to distinguish it from the Charlie Chaplin classic of the same name -- Willis plays Russ Duritz, a successful but joyless "image consultant" who seems just about ready to bottom out on life if something positive doesn't happen soon.
Fortunately, something does. Suddenly, out of nowhere, appears Spencer, a time-traveling, round-face kid who looks quite normal but is wise beyond his years and just happens to be -- suspend your belief, folks -- Russ Duritz himself, at the age of 8, all too many years ago. Young Russ, nicknamed Rusty, does all the things that cute kids are supposed to do, loudly lamenting all the while that Russ Duritz falls far short of being the man that he would like to grow up to be.
At first, the two don't hit it off too well. Duritz finds his life turned upside-down by the sudden arrival of his 8-year-old self. And Young Rusty, in what may be the most memorable line in the film, sees grown-up Russ as a 40-year-old "loser" who doesn't even have a wife or a dog. (To hear the line in context, view the Trailer.)

A DRAMATIC MOMENT In 'Disney's'The Kid'

Eventually, things do get smoothed out as Rusty helps Russ learn a few things about his inner child -- partly by observing Rusty's antics, and partly by remembering dreams that he once had as a kid.
Other cast members of "Disney's The Kid" includeRuss Duritz's assistant in the workplace; and Jean Smart as a TV anchor. Jon Turteltaub ("Phenomenon") directed, Audrey Wells ("The Truth About Cats & Dogs") wrote the screenplay, and composer Marc Shaiman has topped it off with a fantasy-friendly score that has been called somewhat reminiscent of the music in "E.T." (soundtrack available at your neighborhood record store).
